SAT, also known as the ‘Scholastic Assessment Test,’ is an entrance exam for students willing to take admission to undergraduate programs overseas. Particularly at schools and universities in the United States and Canada. It is a written exam that is used to assess the applicants’ writing and quantitative reasoning abilities. In addition, when applying to universities, your SAT results are taken into account. In 2016, considerable modifications to the SAT examination format and design were introduced, and the test was renamed the New SAT.

Eligibility for SAT:

  • Anyone can apply for this test since there is no age barrier as of now, majorly students who have just passed their higher education from schools enroll for this test, i.e. From the age group of 16-18.
  • There is no upper age limit associated with this test and therefore any old person can opt for it. Kids of 12 years or below can also give this test, but by applying through mail only. 


Sections included in SAT exam:

  • Experience-based reading and writing section: This component of the SAT assesses your English language abilities and assigns a score ranging from 200 to 800. It is further separated into portions for reading and writing, with the aggregate score of both areas determining the final score. The SAT exam’s reading component lasts 65 minutes and includes 52 multiple-choice questions based on five essays. The SAT Writing and Language portion lasts 35 minutes and includes 44 multiple-choice questions based on four essays. 
  • Mathematics section: The SAT Mathematics portion assesses your mathematical reasoning abilities, and you will be scored on a scale of 200 to 800 points. This section lasts for 80 minutes and contains 58 questions, with 46 of the questions being multiple-choice and the remaining 12 being the reasoning testing questions for students.
  • Essay section: In the New SAT, an optional 50-minute Essay portion has been added to the exam. You will be given a certain text to analyze in this section, and you will be required to analyze how the author effectively builds up his or her case.
